The AI Trust and Safety Re-imagination Programme invites innovators across the public and private sectors to collectively re-imagine T&S, through measures that both prioritize equitable and practical approaches and foster shared, public–private sector responsibility. The programme aims to advance T&S beyond reactive measures, by creating practices that actively anticipate and prevent harm, and create safer development environments. We look forward to answering your questions about the programme and how to apply. All sessions will be recorded and posted on this page. Please come prepared to ask questions about the submission process and expectations. You can register for the time(s) that work for you using one of the links below. All sessions will be conducted in English.

Q: Is this an internship?
A: No, this is not an internship.
Q: Is this a call for presentations or papers? If so, when and where will they be presented/published?
This is a call for both presentations or papers. Those selected will present their work via a livestream during recorded sessions that will be shared publicly through UNDP channels and in our resource centers.
Q: What level of detail is expected from submissions?
What we will evaluate from these submissions is the strength and relevance of the applicant’s expertise, experience and skills and their potential to make impact based on their presentation or paper.
The level of detail is dependent on the maturity of the research/ development space as compared to others applying. For example, if people are presenting on financial fraud, which is a highly mature space, then they would need to provide detail and evidence that is more robust than perhaps AI soft fakes and child safety, which is a newly emerging problem space.
Q: May I apply more than once?
A: Yes! If your research evolves or if you're using the same approach to address different problem spaces or are testing your approach in different regions with different populations and have insights that are unique, we encourage you to re-apply with new information. For example, you might be researching AI misinformation for journalism, but also have used similar approaches to research misinformation in health or elections in different regions. It's fine to submit multiple times to address those different scenarios.
Q: Do I need a solution or product to apply?
A: No, you can apply with research or prototypes. This is a fast-evolving space and you are not expected to have a fully tested solution. Your knowledge and expertise and approaches to the AI Trust and Safety challenges are being assessed along with whether you are well-skilled and well-positioned to make progress and impact with your chosen approach in specific countries/ regions/ populations/ languages you plan to work with.
Q: Do I need to have specific skills or know specific programming languages?
A: No you do not. However, we are assessing whether you are well-skilled and positioned to deliver and progress the approach you are presenting. If you propose a legal solution, you should have expertise in the law. If you are proposing a technical approach, you should have the needed technical skills for that approach. Don't apply with a plan you aren't skilled to implement.
Q: If selected, will I get funding? Can I later be funded?
There is no funding attached to being selected. However, you will have the opportunity to pitch and present your work to global stakeholders, many of whom could invest or offer you resources to advance your work and help you attract funding in the future.
