A gender situational analysis is the first step in designing a gender-responsive or transformative policy or strategy. It can help countries to:
Recognize both women and men as environmental stewards and key agents of change needed to achieve biodiversity goals.
Ensure that the voices, ideas, concerns and experiences of women and men are considered as integral aspects of design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the policy or strategy.
Assess the differentiated impacts on women and men of any action or intervention associated with the policy or strategy and seek to mitigate any possible negative impacts.
Identify how the benefits, responsibilities and costs associated with the policy or strategy are distributed between and among men and women.
