There is a growing body of research on the intersections climate change and GBV. For example, during periods of prolonged drought, there can be an increase in child marriage, as a means to cope with food scarcity, and women and girls take more frequent and longer journeys to obtain food or water, which makes them vulnerable to sexual assault. Environment and climate programming present compelling opportunities for GBV prevention and response. For example, environmental management programmes that increase women's access to productive resources, energy, water and food resources can also reduce their risk of GBV.
