Introduction
The goal of the consultation and co-creation process was to cast a wide net in capturing the vision, priorities, and aspirations of young people across the world for the digital transformation. By reaching out to non-traditional constituencies such as youth, the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) seeks to open the discussion on new digital development issues that are currently not on the agenda of governments and ITU. The consultation helped us see the blind spots of our current approaches and bring a new perspective on the issues already being addressed. This consultation is now closed.
Based on your feedback and the earlier consultation with the Generation Connect community since January 2021, including the global online consultation on SparkBlue from 12 April through 6 May 2022 (see below), we are pleased to share with you the Generation Connect Youth Call to Action ‘My Digital Future’.
Please read the Consultation and co-creation process report for all details. |

Welcome! If you are aged 18 to 29 and interested in playing an active role in a global policy advocacy campaign - join us for the global consultation and co-creation process on the outcome of the ITU Generation Connect Youth Summit (Kigali, Rwanda, 2-4 June 2022), the Youth Call to Action ‘Our digital future’. The consultation seeks to involve youth from different regions and backgrounds into the co-creation of youth’s vision for the digital future, youth’s commitment towards it and a set of concrete recommendations to policy and decision-makers from governments and the United Nations system, and in particular ITU. The process will be driven by youth’s ideas and experiences and key decision-makers will be ‘listening’ and engaging with youth in the process. Those decision-makers will carry on the messages and recommendations of the Call to Action to their work at the national level and feed them into UN-wide initiatives. |
Objective
The input and feedback received during the consultation along with the content generated during the regional consultations with the Generation Connect community will form the basis for the outcome document of the ITU Youth Summit, the Call to Action. The Call to Action will serve as an advocacy instrument to enhance youth engagement in ITU and across the UN system and strengthen the youth perspective in organizational digital strategies and their implementation. The recommendations of the Call to Action will feed back to the Global Digital Compact and the UN Common Agenda processes.
More information
Based on the input received, the Moderators for the consultation will complete the visual canvas for the Call to Action, adapted from the original Storytelling canvas which is one of the ITU Innovation tools, and make it available in the consultation space. Based on it, the draft Call to Action will be developed.
Next steps
The Call to Action will be published here ahead of the Generation Connect Youth Summit (2-4 June, Kigali, Rwanda) and the discussion on its implementation will kick off during the dedicated sessions at the Summit.
