Dear young people,

Feels a bit strange to address a group I am myself part of ! If you are on this platform, it’s because, like myself, you’re interested, concerned about our digital future. Our consultation is the right place to reflect, discuss and make your voice heard about the future of ICTs in an impactful way.

Please check our details page for more information about the process and the goal of our consultation. But for now, I’m pleased to welcome you to the lounge, a place to socialize and share our intentions and expectations about the Youth Call to Action.

My name is Anaëlle, I am a 19 years old student of political sciences in Paris. I’m also interning at ITU, because, as Gen Z, I feel particularly concerned by the evolution of the roles of ICTs in our society. I’ve grown up around screens, and I’ve been, in turn, empowered and disqualified by new technologies.

However, I firmly believe in the potential that they offer us (for me, I’m mostly excited about political engagement online). This is why I am part of this co-creation process, to listen to the voices of young people, just like you, and help policies to be more meaningful for us.

In turn, please, share a bit about yourself, your motivations and your expectations about this consultation ! I look forward to reading your contributions and getting our conversation started :)

Remember to check the other discussion rooms, about your concerns, commitments and call to action to policy makers !

Hello, I'm Furkan USTA. I am 20 years old. I am student of electrical and electronic engineering. I am Turkish, I live in Trabzon in the Black Sea region. This is a port city especially famous for its historical diversity and natural beauties. In addition to technical projects in my field, I try to participate in very good organizations such as this organization that require me to use my social skills too.
I'm into ham radio. This is why the 25th article of CEPT crossed our paths with the ITU. By the way, my callsign is TA7TUR.

With generation connect, while trying to fill the gap between the disadvantaged groups, I also aim to revive my own social skills, especially after the pandemic. As a member of the youth group, we are actually investing in our future. I am only participating as a helping eye to make this investment more effective.

I enjoy being a part of this young organization and working with you.

Hello, my name is Apolline and I am a 20 year old business administration student. I am French but currently living in Madrid, Spain.

Digital technologies seem to be constantly evolving and innovating at faster rates than ever before, and this can feel overwhelming, along with the fact that online technologies take increasingly more space in our lives. Especially with the pandemic, many of us had to use digital means for communication, school entertainment, purchases, etc. Therefore part of my motivation to join this consultation is to be as aware and in control digitally as i can, since it is nowadays an inevitable part of life, which does come with advantages, but many risks as well (cybercrime, protection of privacy and data..).

My expectations would be to gain a better understanding about how to incorporate and manage these digital innovations in our future as young people. Moreover, I am eager to learn about other young people’s perspective, and how our voice can affect larger scale decisions that impact us and our future.

Hello, my name is Olivia. I am 22 and I am a master's student in renewable energy technologies. I am from Burkina Faso but am currently in Ghana for studies.

I have a big interest in digital technologies because I believe they can lead to sustainable development. Nowadays, in every domain, digital technologies are used to improve services. ICT have shown that they have an important role to play in our daily activities. It is therefore important to see how we can make use of those technologies without consequences for us and for future generations. However, some communities in the World are still lagging when it comes to digital education.

As a member of this platform, I would like to contribute to meeting some challenges of digital applications. I would like to learn from each and everyone here about digital technologies.

My main motivation to be part of this discussion and of generation connect is because I believe we can be a bridge between generations and I hope we have the opportunity to contribute towards the achievement of the SDGs especially the access to quality education, eradication of poverty and hunger while promoting gender equality and reducing inequalities by 2030.

I am studying a Master in Educational Innovation. I founded a project called Digital Students, where we use technology to democratize education to make it more accessible to everyone. Currently, we facilitate the education of more than 8,500 people from 14 countries around the world, contributing to SDG 4 of the 2030 Agenda.

2. This process seems to me to be fundamental for the development of society as a whole, youth are building their own future in which they want to live and each one, from their place, contributes to a certain cause. I am grateful that more and more young people have a voice.

3. I hope that the result is enriching, that new ideas are generated and that young people continue to have a voice in these processes. I believe that there are several factors that together make a "good team": young people - leadership - intention to make positive changes in a community - interest in contributing to the 2030 Agenda - authorities willing to listen.
The combination of these factors can bring extraordinary results.

Thanks so much for reading.

We rely heavily on it for almost everything from knowledge, to utility to communication and this has lead me here because I'm extremely concerned about how it'll turn out this time. By that I'm interested in hearing what youth have to say at this very moment, their concerns, opinions, how we can work together to build bridges as well as solutions to the already existing problems. Plus, I just love the idea of being connected to other youth across the world.

Bonjour, chers amis.

I recently finished my studies in International Relations and my passions are gender equality and protection of the underage people. I feel I can be part of this conversation because even when I am not an expert in technologies, I am super interested in the impact that it has in the people, and the impact that could have (both negative and positive) on the gender equality and on the underage people.

As a woman, I want the ICTs to be a platform of growing and succes and not a challenge and barrier. Women do not have the same opportunities in the ICTs and I would like to help in anyway to achieve the gender equality in this topic. For the children and teenagers, I want the ICTs to be a tool that is well balanced with their healty life.

Mbanwie pearly
Mbanwie pearly

Hello everyone, I am Mbanwie Pearly, 23 years old and I come from Cameroon. Currently studying to obtain a Masters in Interpreting in Cameroon.

I joined this platform because I believe a good number of youths like us, Gen Z and those who follow were sort of thrusted into the digital world. With no rules or laid down guidelines for us to explore properly. The developments which are made day after day thanks to the internet are amazing, as well as the havoc and harm others use the digital world to perpetuate. My first expectation is to hope we come up with better laid down rules to protect those who will come after us, saving them suffering, loss and hurt facilitated by the use of digital devices.

Secondly, while some countries are very much abreast with the digital world, topping the trends by creating new things, other countries are sourly lagging behind. Internet connection in such countries is ridiculously expensive and staying continuously connected, exploring all the advantages the internet offers is a luxury, so for the wealthy of sorts. Through this platform, as unrealistic as it sounds, I do hope we make access to the digital world as inherent or intrinsic as the right to education, food, water because whether we believe it or not, the internet is becoming very indispensable.

For developing countries most especially, I hope we stop at nothing in trying to use the internet in achieving SDGs 4,5 and 8. Sensitising youths like us on the opportunities the internet offers, going beyond the limits of day-to-day entertainment. Doing something meaningful that goes beyond our individual selves, but doing what matters even to those who will come 50 years after us. Let them settle in a world with a little less strive and struggle.

It's a privilege meeting each one of you here. I do hope SDG 17 is made a reality for us through our interactions. Thank you.

Hello. My name is Nicholas Gasani.  I am 21 years old, studying Environmental Engineering at the National University of Rwanda. I live in Kigali Rwanda.

My motivation to be part of this co-creation process is I am interested in digital technologies in managing the environment.  Africa in general faces serious environmental challenges, including land degradation, loss of biodiversity, climate change effects, water and air pollution etc.  Digital technologies especially emerging technologies such as Internet of Things, data science, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles technologies can be used to mitigate the environmental challenges outlined above.

My expectations is to see more African youth adopt use of digital technologies in their every day life including in their various professions/work/businesses etc.
