About this webinar

The UN System recognizes the urgency of addressing biodiversity conservation and pollution prevention and reduction through integrated, well-coordinated efforts. This approach connects and builds on the strategies and programmes of UN System entities, facilitating the implementation of treaties while promoting coherence and reducing policy fragmentation.

The success of the UN Common Approaches to Biodiversity and Pollution depends on aligning initiatives with the SDGs, Multilateral Environment Agreements (MEAs), and UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Frameworks (UNSDCFs), translating global priorities into impactful national actions. By scaling up effective models, the UN System can drive a coordinated global response to create a pollution-free planet. This webinar will examine how integrated policies can bridge biodiversity conservation and pollution prevention to accelerate progress toward the 2030 Agenda.

Agenda

Co-organized with the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), join this webinar to gain insights into the UN Common Approaches to Biodiversity and Pollution and learn about practical strategies developed by the UN Environment Programme and partners for policy alignment and integration in the areas of biodiversity conservation and pollution prevention. The session will focus on illustrating the need for policy coherence in environmental financing and governance and exploring actionable steps for national-level implementation to enhance UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Frameworks (UNSDCF) outcomes, based on concrete examples from the field.

The session will be moderated by Dr. Balakrishna Pisupati, Head, UN Environment Programme (UNEP) India. Keynote speakers for this session include:

Mr. Hossein Fadaei, Head, UN Environment Management Group (EMG) Secretariat

Ms. Dikshya Devkota, Analyst, The Global Environment Facility (GEF) Secretariat
