Objective
To exchange on experiences, innovation and the lessons learnt from tackling climate-related security risks from the perspective of integrated approaches to the humanitarian, development and peacebuilding nexus.
More efforts are needed to
- Climate-proof peacebuilding and stabilization efforts
- Deliver on the Climate Promise and peace-positive adaptation in conflict-affected and fragile states; and
- integrated approaches to climate action and sustaining peace.

Room Aim
- Theme 1. Addressing climate-related security risks – a perspective from the HDP nexus
Documenting nexus experiences as they may inform efforts to address climate-related security risks.
- Theme 2. Climate finance for sustaining peace
Examining the contribution of climate finance for sustaining peace - addresses risks, opportunities and co-benefits of climate finance in conflict-affected and fragile states for peace and stability.
- Theme 3. Climate security and policy mainstreaming
A perspective on how Member States understand climate-related security risks and possible direction for climate security mainstreaming.
- Theme 4. Climate security and the prevention of violent extremism
While it is understood that climate change does not directly and in-and-of-itself cause conflict or violent extremism, this discussion draws on the intersection between the root causes of violent extremism and how they intersect with climate vulnerability.

- The UN system, agencies, funds and programmes (in particular practitioners working on analysis and programming in the field),
- Regional/sub-regional organizations, Member States and
- NGOs, CSOs, the research community, and other non-state actors working on climate security
Impact
Contributions to:
- CSM study, “climate finance for sustaining peace” and
- UNDP climate security workstream, including policy mainstreaming, climate security nexus and Preventing Violent Extremism (PVE), and
- A synthesis report, capturing the results of the proceedings.
