On Challenges

  • Sufficient access of cities / LGUs to resources and key processes specially in relation to the needs of the marginalized sectors. Monitoring by the DILG is crucial #biodiv #M&E/data
  • For some companies, climate change is another challenge that is adversely affecting raw material supply especially those that are agri-based and natural #SCP
  • Households need to know the types of plastics in order to properly segregate wastes. #SCP
  • Philippines is dependent on imports of green raw materials. Some companies may close down because they do not have the economies of scale to shift, and their current technologies do not match with the raw materials. #SCP

On Opportunities

  • Increasing trend/demand for green products for exported goods, hence there are programs supporting manufacturers towards keeping up with the demand #SCP #GJobs
  • Tap the power of social media -- partnerships with DENR/DTI with influencers (similar to the SalikLakbay projects of DOST) -- to promote products and practices that have been verified as sustainable #SCP #hope
  • Business sector is shifting to the regenerative business model #AR #SCP #GJobs
  • Learn from existing global standard for nature-based solutions that includes a self-assessment tool #AR  #biodiv
  • Community pantries, which allowed for sharing of food that became difficult to access during the pandemic. #hope

On Solutions

  • Recognize that ancestral domains (ADs) are important in ensuring sustainable productivity by ensuring that IP communities are able to participate in the planning and implementation of food security programs #biodiv
  • Macroeconomic policies should be synergized with social welfare policies #Fin #nppfp
  • Expand coverage of RECP to all regions with participation of industry and professional organizations; this includes capacity building and having demonstration facilities #SCP
  • Empower the youth, the women, the marginalized and the general public to be more involved through citizen science. (ie Making the plastic waste assessment for #EcoSquadGoals to be more regular, by collaborating with DepEd/CHED or LGUs) #SCP #hope
  • Inter and transdisciplinary courses on sustainability, more concrete incorporation of design thinking in research subjects, more frequent guest lecturers from industry and government agencies #SCP #GJobs
  • Conduct of massive trainings on how to identify plastics (7 types), to segregate and recycle them as segregated. and make sure these are well understood even up to the level of household helpers, who eventually are the potential waste generators #SCP
  • Promote green jobs not just as “jobs” but a way of life #GJobs #hope
  • Improve people’s access to education to address the gap between demand and supply of green jobs. basic education on SDG and ESG should be included in the school curriculum #GJobs #hope
