The preparation for the international meeting “Stockholm+50: a healthy planet for the prosperity of all – our responsibility, our opportunity” and the national consultations in Kyrgyzstan started in April 2021. To facilitate focused discussions, a series of focus group discussions of meetings with various stakeholder groups were organized.

Every meeting was followed by the SparkBlue discussion in the group “Stockholm+50 National Consultation: Kyrgyzstan”. Online platform SparkBlue was open to all those who wished to make contributions to the development of national position under the Stockholm+50 initiative. Some recommendations gathered through the platform were included in a report that Kyrgyzstan’s delegation presented at the international conference “Stockholm+50: a healthy planet for the prosperity of all – our responsibility, our opportunity”.

Participants discussed all the topics related to the National Strategy and replied to the following questions:

•    How can we restore and revitalize a positive relationship with nature? List 2 or 3 best practices and ways you would like to expand to ensure movement toward a healthy planet.
•    What actions would you (your group) take to scale change toward a healthy planet? What policies/structures need to be in place for you to take such action?
•    How can marginalized and vulnerable groups benefit from policies and initiatives to restore a more sustainable and resilient relationship with nature (that reduce natural risks)?
•    How can we protect the rights of people and nature, including, among others, indigenous peoples and local communities, environmentalists, women, youth, and future generations?
•    What new or prioritized set of indicators and metrics is needed to track our progress toward a healthier and more prosperous planet?

The SparkBlue discussion underlined the main problems of the growth of household waste, the culture of waste separation, and bringing the legislation in line with international standards of environmental protection. It was emphasized that it is important to protect nature, which is directly linked to the development of infrastructure and awareness raising. In this regard, it is important to increase citizens' awareness and invest in green technology.

Participants also discussed the necessity of providing universal access to education and digital technologies through the improvement of a unified online work base for the green economy sector. This platform would help to improve the quality of monitoring and evaluation.
