UNEA-5 Side Event: Reimagining Conservation: Integrating Human Rights into the Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework

You are cordially invited to participate in an upcoming side event at the Fifth Session of the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-5). The event will be held online and will produce recommendations for a post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework that promotes rights-based action to protect biodiversity, including by safeguarding Indigenous Peoples’ rights and ways of life.

Speakers will include Annika Strandhäll, Minister for Climate and the Environment of Sweden; David Boyd, UN Special Rapporteur on human rights and the environment; and Francisco Cali Tzay, UN Special Rapporteur on the rights of indigenous peoples. 

Date: Monday, February 28, 2022, from 11:15 to 12:45 CET (Central European Time). 


This event is convened by Costa Rica, Peru, Slovenia and Sweden, in collaboration with UNEP; UNDP;  EarthJustice; the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR); the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI), SweBio; CIEL; Natural Justice; the Raoul Wallenberg Institute of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law; Human Rights Watch; Forest Peoples Programme; Conservation International; the Centre for Justice Governance and Environmental Action;  the IUCN Commission on Environmental, Economic and Social Policy; International Indian Treaty Council; and WWF.
