The International Day of Science, Technology and Innovation for the South will be celebrated for the first time in 16 September 2025. The International Day showcases the contributions of innovative scientific and technological solutions from the Global South to progress towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The International STI for the South Day stems from the landmark Havana Summit of the G77 and China in 2023, where global leaders recognized the power of STI to reshape development trajectories and agreed to promote fair access, inclusive innovation, and strengthened cooperation across the Global South. This commitment was formalized in UN General Assembly Resolution A/RES/78/259, adopted in January 2024.
