Challenging Patriarchal Masculinities and  Preventing Gender-Based Violence (GBV)

DATE: Tuesday, 23 February 2021

TIME: 9.00 - 10.15 a.m. EST

UNDP’s Gender Team is delighted to invite you to a webinar on "Challenging Patriarchal Masculinities and Preventing Gender-Based Violence (GBV)" on Tuesday, 23 February at 9:00 - 10:15 AM EST. This session will explore current practice, emerging lessons, and future priorities for integrating a focus on challenging patriarchal masculinities into GBV prevention programming and policymaking.

The need to work with men and boys to prevent and respond to violence against women and girls has been on the international agenda for over two decades. But the ‘shadow epidemic’ of lockdown-related patriarchal violence, from the earliest days of the Covid-19 pandemic onwards, makes clear how much work there is still to do.

As part of UNDP’s Targeting Men, Transforming Masculinities (TMx2)* initiative, this webinar will interrogate the current evidence base and chart ways forward for more effective GBV prevention work with men and boys. UNDP practitioners and Country Offices who are interested in applying/replicating TMx2 approach into their GBV prevention work will get the opportunity to learn about and discuss:

  • the many links between violence and patriarchal masculinities;
  • emerging lessons and challenges in GBV prevention; and
  • strategies to work with men and boys on patriarchal violence in a range of development, transition, and post-conflict settings.

We hope you can join us!
