Zambia launched the Investment Case for Road Safety on August 13, 2024. The investment case was completed through a partnership with UNDP, the Zambian Ministry of Health, the Zambian Road Transport and Safety Agency, the United Nations Road Safety Fund, and RTI International.
The investment case found that more than 2,100 lives are taken each year in Zambia to road traffic accidents. This also amounts to an economic burden of US$700 million (ZMK 16.7 billion) every year, equivalent to 4.7% of GDP.
Investing in road safety interventions can prevent more than 50,000 deaths in Zambia and save US$12.8 billion (ZMK 234 billion) over 30 years.
