Disaster risk reduction (DRR) is the concept and practice of reducing and preventing disaster risk and building resilience to any remaining residual risk. In view of the rapidly increasing socioeconomic damages caused by disasters, integrating DRR into development planning is a key element for the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and reduction of humanitarian aid requirements. The UN Sendai Framework 2015-2030 is the international framework agreed by all UN Member States and which guides Governments and all other stakeholders in this quest.
