Spotlighting UNDP South-South Cooperation in Gender: Promoting Regional Knowledge-Sharing on Comprehensive Support for Gender-Based Violence Survivors
In November 2025, UNDP Argentina and the UNDP Seoul Policy Centre, in partnership with the Provincial Government of Córdoba, organized a regional workshop focused on sharing practical experiences in strengthening survivor-centered mechanisms for responding to gender-based violence (GBV). Bringing together delegations from Argentina, Ecuador, Paraguay, Brazil, Mexico, Uruguay, the Republic of Korea, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the workshop provided a platform for knowledge sharing and South-South and Triangular Cooperation to advance more effective and sustainable GBV responses.

The workshop marked a key milestone under the USPC–UNDP Argentina SDG Partnership project on addressing sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV). This international project has supported the institutionalization of a monitoring and evaluation (M&E) framework adapted from the Republic of Korea’s Sunflower Centers, an inter-institutional, one-stop service model for GBV survivors, since 2020. Its successful application in Córdoba and Salta Province illustrates the catalytic role of South-South and Triangular Cooperation in generating scalable and sustainable impacts.
Participants from Ecuador, Brazil, Mexico, Paraguay, Uruguay, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo exchanged national experiences and policy approaches to strengthening survivor-centered GBV support systems. The regional workshop facilitated peer learning across a range of institutional models and gender policy frameworks, including Ciudad Mujer (Paraguay), Casa da Mulher Brasileira (Brazil), SiempreVivas (Mexico), Warmi (Ecuador), as well as progress under Uruguay’s integrated assistance model for survivors of violence. By linking global experience with locally led action, the workshop strengthened collective efforts to advance gender equality and GBV support across regions.
Gender-based violence remains one of the most widespread human rights violations globally, and the USPC–UNDP Argentina SDG Partnership Programme demonstrates the potential of South-South cooperation to address gender inequality. South-South and Triangular Cooperation not only provides a platform for strengthening institutional coordination and peer learning, but also enables the translation of global knowledge into locally led and sustainable systems to address GBV, ultimately advancing progress toward Sustainable Development Goal 5 on gender equality.
