Policy Paper

The 2nd Global Progress Report on SDG16 Indicators marks a pivotal UN inter-agency effort to support the 2030 Agenda. It highlights critical trends that, if not reversed, could jeopardize the achievement of global goals and leave more people behind.

The first joint report, released in 2023, served as a wake-up call, revealing that progress on SDG16—justice, peace, and strong institutions—was alarmingly off track, with some areas even moving in the wrong direction. However, it also acknowledged important strides in addressing data gaps through partnerships, technical assistance, and evidence production.

This second report compiles contributions from all SDG16 indicators in a single document, offering the best regional and global data available across all targets. The data and analysis spotlight trends shaping our world and emphasize the urgent need for action to reverse negative developments and foster a more just and sustainable future.
