Maldives Launches Project to Strengthen Early Warning Systems for Climate Resilience
In response to the increasing frequency and intensity of extreme weather events, a new tripartite cooperation project to strengthen the Maldives’ early warning and disaster preparedness capabilities was launched by the Government of Maldives and UNDP on 18 May 2025. In partnership with the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), the initiative will upgrade meteorological infrastructure across the Maldives by expanding observation networks, enhancing data collection and forecasting accuracy, and developing localized, gender-responsive digital platforms for timely community alerts.
