We are proud to have held the third national Stockholm +50 Consultation in Ajloun a few days back. The consultation session was a wonderful opportunity to learn and listen from what different stakeholder groups – youth, women, government, and civil society – had to say about the S+50 agenda in line with Jordanian environmental policy and legislation. It was a great example of engaging different stakeholders from various regions of Jordan to voice regional concerns and highlight challenges they were facing so that national – and international – actions and solutions are taken.

To highlight the grave risk at stake, the responsibility to protect, and the opportunity to act, the third consultation took place in the Ajloun Forest Reserve!

The objective of the national consultations is to stimulate an inclusive, bottom-up whole-of-society and whole-of-government debate on Stockholm+50 themes and national and sector policy frameworks. Similar to the last consultation sessions, the three leadership dialogues defined and set out to be addressed during the consultation sessions we posed at Ajloun and the floor was opened for collaboration and debate amongst the stakeholders in attendance.

Leadership dialogue 1: Reflecting on the urgent need for actions to achieve a healthy planet and prosperity of all;

Leadership dialogue 2: Achieving a sustainable and inclusive recovery from the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic; and

Leadership dialogue 3: Accelerating the implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development in the context of the decade of action and delivery for sustainable development.

"One of the most important innovations, and promising technology, is that of sustainable green building that helps preserve the environment and saves energy... I hope to see such buildings come to fruition around the Kingdom."

- Engr. Saja Boua'neh, valued attendee

After each time-slot assigned to tackle challenges and the consequential solutions under each leadership dialogue, a representative from each group of attendees presented the list of deliverables and argued for the urgency of action in said areas in Jordan.
