In December 2015, the United Nations Security Council adopted UNSCR 2250 on the YPS Agenda, which fundamentally changed how the world understands and engages with young people in peace and security. For decades, research and global discourse often painted young people through a deficit lens, framing them as passive victims or potential drivers of conflict. This narrow narrative overlooked the immense contributions young people make every day in shaping safer, peaceful, and resilient communities.
The 10x10 Youth, Peace, and Security (YPS) Impact Stories in Africa initiative commemorates the tenth anniversary of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2250, which emphasizes the crucial role of youth in promoting peace and security. This initiative is spearheaded by a coalition comprising UNFPA, UNDP, UNOY Peacebuilders, GPPAC West Africa, and the Major Group for Children and Youth, and aims to document the transformative contributions of African youth toward peacebuilding.
