This course gives local municipal staff a shared foundation for engaging with AI deliberately, critically, and with confidence.
Municipalities interact with AI in different ways. In some cases, they use AI tools internally. In others, they procure AI-enabled systems from private vendors. They may oversee how AI is applied in public services. They may also be responsible for putting in place the data, infrastructure, and governance conditions that allow AI to function responsibly.
In that sense, municipalities wear many hats when it comes to AI.
This course is designed to help you understand those different roles and what they mean in practice. By the end of the course, you will be able to:
- Explain what AI is and where it fits in local government work.
- Recognise where AI may add value and where it may introduce new risks or unintended consequences.
- Understand what your municipality needs to have in place before AI can deliver meaningful results.
- Identify the responsibilities that come with using, commissioning, or overseeing AI in a public institution.
Ask informed and thoughtful questions when engaging with partners, vendors, collaborating with colleagues, and making decisions within your municipality.
Note: This course is available in multiple languages, which you can select from the top right corner. Translations are done with the help of AI and reviewed by the team, but minor errors may still remain.
