Welcome to the UNFPA external consultation on adolescent and youth programming. UNFPA upholds the rights and choices of young people as a cornerstone of the International Conference on Population and Development Programme of Action and the 2030 Agenda. As we embark on the journey to develop our Strategic Plan 2022-2025, we would like to seek your valuable insight on various aspects related to our work with and for young people.
UNFPA's Strategic Plan 2018- 2021, was our roadmap for the first leg of the journey to 2030 and the SDGs, and it prioritized investments in young people across four outcomes, including one dedicated to adolescents and youth. We were guided by the understanding that realizing the rights and choices of young people is the only way to achieve UNFPA’s three transformative results—ending preventable maternal deaths, ending the unmet need for family planning, and ending gender-based violence and harmful practices.
Building on the current Strategic Plan, as well as My Body, My Life, My World, UNFPA’s global strategy for adolescents and youth, we are setting out to fully implement UNFPA’s updated and reinvigorated approach to collaborating with, investing in and championing young people.
Against this backdrop, this external consultation with youth-led and youth-serving partners and other stakeholders aims to:
- Capture how young people are being impacted by megatrends and the specific opportunities and challenges they face at the local, regional and global levels,
- Enables UNFPA to more effectively deliver for and with young people, building on the existing Strategic Plan and My Body, My Life, My World,
- Explore innovative pathways and new avenues of collaboration for UNFPA’s adolescent and youth programming,
- Draw a clearer picture of what success looks like and how UNFPA can make a valuable contribution to ensure rights and choices for young people around the world.
We’re inviting all partners and stakeholders among UNFPA networks at global, regional and country levels, with a particular emphasis on youth-led and youth-serving organizations and partners that have interest and expertise in supporting UNFPA’s adolescent and youth programming.
This consultation aims to learn from successes and innovative approaches, so as to further improve UNFPA’s adolescents and youth programming by providing the most effective, efficient and tailored ways to deliver for young people in different settings.
