Unleashing the power of youth: Supporting youth-led climate action in LDCs

This event is co-organized by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Education Above All (EAA), UNESCO and UNICEF and it will take place at the 5th Conference of the Least Developed Countries (LDC5 Conference) on 8 March, 10:30am-12pm.

Objectives

The session will feature how children and young people can be meaningfully engaged in the design and content of climate policies, priorities, and related processes. The session will:

  • Present examples of initiatives that support young peoples’ engagement on climate change in LDCs
  • Promote an intergenerational dialogue between young people, Member State, UN entities and development partners on the climate change agenda in LDCs 
  • Discuss climate change recommendations from young people to transform the LDC5 Youth Declaration into action.
  • Highlight efforts and contributions by UN partner organizations and Member States on actions they currently take or planned to support young people’s role in climate action in LDCs.
