International Youth Day - Youth Engagement for Global Action

The theme of International Youth Day 2020, “Youth Engagement for Global Action” seeks to highlight the ways in which the engagement of young people at the local, national and global levels is enriching national and multilateral institutions and processes, as well as draw lessons on how their representation and engagement in formal institutional politics can be significantly enhanced.

8-9:30am EDT, 11 August: UNDP CoP Chat 'Young People Powering Climate Action'. Further information here.

Young activists and development practitioners have joined UNDP’s public e-discussion ‘Youth meaningful participation as a turning point for climate action and NDC ambition’ at our community engagement platform, Sparkblue, which is open until 14 August!

14:00 GMT+3, 12 August: This International Youth Day, join the African Leadership Institute and the African Union Office of The Youth Envoy in launching the “Greater Inclusion of African Youth in Public Service and Governance” report which summarises insights and makes recommendations to achieving greater youth inclusion in governance across the continent derived from the intensive workshop held with young leaders and policymakers in May 2020. 10-11:30 CEST, 12 August: To mark International Youth Day 2020, partners of the Global Initiative on Decent Jobs for Youth invite you to a virtual event where their latest report Youth and COVID-19: Impacts on youth employment, education, rights and well-being will be launched. Register here.

9am EDT, 12 August: Generation Unlimited, Decent Jobs for Youth, the United Nations Children's Fund, and the International Labour Organization are partnering together to host an event during International Youth Day 2020: Reimagine the Future Together. The event will launch 'What Works? A Guide to Action'. Register here.

8AM PDT/4PM BST/ 11PM Singapore: Youtube livestream of the announcement of the grand prize winners of the #COVID19DetectProtect Challenge. the open-source hardware challenge to tackle COVID-19 by UNDP in partnership with 15+ major tech companies. 11:30am - 12:30pm EDT, 12 August: A conversation to socialize the Youth Peace and Security agenda, explore how youth are contributing to peacebuilding, and discuss the key ingredients for government support of YPS. Organized by U.S. YPS Coalition. Register here.

12:30-2pm, 12 August: UN Women will host a virtual event 'Generation Equality' in celebration of International Youth Day. The event will be a recognition of the contributions and leadership of youth, particularly during these times of COVID-19. Global solidarity will be shared with and from youth activists, leaders, and feminists from across the globe. See livestream here.

10am - 12:30pm EDT, 12 August: Young Women Leaders & Peacebuilders on the Frontlines of Crises online event organized by the Global Network for Women Peacebuilders and partners. Register here.
