Applications for the Historic Filipinotown Environmental Stewardship Program are now open.

 

Goals: The goals of the Historic Filipinotown Environmental Stewardship Program is to engage three promising sustainability youth leaders for six months with the hope of developing their knowledge, communication skills, and leadership skills in sustainability by providing opportunities for hands-on learning with partner organizations engaged in sustainability and pairing the participants with sustainability mentors that will help them plan and implement their sustainability impact project in the community.

 

Introduction: Friends of the Echo Park Library is offering the Historic Filipinotown Environmental Stewardship Program to 3 highly motivated individuals to engage and learn about sustainability, the Los Angeles Green New Deal, the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations, and other sustainability initiatives. The program includes mentorship, a stipend of $300 towards a sustainability project, and a series of educational workshops. The deadline to submit applications is September 15, 2022.

 

Stipend Amount: Stipend of $300 towards an Environmental Steward ($50 per month). This stipend is contingent upon the continued engagement in the Environmental Stewardship Program.

 

Application Submission Process: Participants must complete the application form and email it, along with a resume, letter of recommendation, and a one-page cover letter explaining their interest, to Mr. James Castillo, the Program Director of Friends of the Echo Park Library, at [email protected].

 

Eligibility: Participant must (1) be over 18 years old; (2) have demonstrated interest in sustainability; (3) live close to Historic Filipinotown; (4) recruit at least five people to attend three workshops; and (5) have access to a computer with internet access to participate in the online learning activities.

 

Program Description: Historic Filipinotown Environmental Stewards will:

Participate in a hands-on/experiential learning project in sustainability

Submit bi-monthly reflections on their learning project

Be matched with a mentor who will review bi-monthly reflections and provide ongoing feedback on learning project

Participate in a monthly educational workshop

Be part of a cohort of other Environmental Stewards Engage with partner organizations in learning more about sustainability
