Gender Justice, Everywhere

Progress towards equal power and equal rights for women remains elusive around the world. No country has achieved gender equality. Globally, discriminatory laws, policies and attitudes remain common and ingrained. Approximately one in three women have experienced physical or sexual violence by an intimate partner. Women continue to be under-represented in decision-making roles that directly impact their lives, safety and well-being. In crisis settings, women often bear the brunt of violence, marginalization and economic exclusion.

Gender Justice, Everywhere aims to present UNDP´s work supporting the rights of women and women’s empowerment through justice initiatives on the ground in crisis and post-crisis settings. We can do this because of the strength of our partnerships with civil society, government and other agencies, especially UN Women. On International Women’s Day 2021, we will celebrate the power of these partnerships, and how they overcome challenges to achieve Gender Justice, Everywhere.

Three national experiences will be highlighted:

The Gambia – Women in the Transitional Justice Process

Pakistan – Transgender Rights

Palestine – Access to Legal Aid for GBV
