About the event
The 2022 high-level commemoration of the United Nations Day for South-South Cooperation will be co-hosted by the UN Office for South-South Cooperation (UNOSSC), the Government of Thailand, and the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP). During the event, stakeholders will reflect on the vital role of South-South and triangular cooperation in supporting Member States achieve the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and deliver on the Decade of Action, while effectively recovering from the global COVID-19 crisis, and building resilient, sustainable, smart and inclusive societies
This event will be an occasion for UN Member States to celebrate the United Nations Day for South-South Cooperation and redouble their advocacy and commitment towards the contribution of South-South and triangular cooperation to deliver urgent development solutions.
This commemoration will also feature the launch of the publication “Good Practices in South-South and Triangular Cooperation for Sustainable Development – Vol. 4”, led by UNOSSC, which presents over 130 good practices from more than 50 partners, including Member States, intergovernmental organizations, United Nations entities, and other development stakeholders. The publication also highlights solutions on COVID-19 response and recovery, poverty alleviation, climate action, trade facilitation and digitalization. Building on
the three prior highly successful editions, the fourth volume significantly expands the South South and triangular cooperation knowledge base across all Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), highlighting innovation, and a greater diversity of partners now leveraging South-South and triangular cooperation collaboration for development.
*This publication features 19 UNDP cases from different UNDP COs and regions, including UNDP Panama Regional Hub, UNDP Regional Bureau of Latin America and the Caribbean, UNDP Angola, UNDP Egypt, UNDP Malawi, UNDP PAPP, UNDP SEESAC (South Eastern and Eastern Europe Clearinghouse for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons) housed in UNDP’s Belgrade office, operating under the Istanbul Regional Hub (IRH) of UNDP’s Regional Bureau for Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States, UNDP BERA Innovative Digital Partnerships Team and IRH Innovation Team- Alternative Finance Lab, etc.
