Parliamentarians as Peace-builders: Displacing Online Hate Speech with the Discourse of Respect

Register here for the virtual event

A growing threat to the political participation and representation of women and other underrepresented, marginalized or vulnerable groups in the form of online hate speech and violence has accelerated during the COVID-19 pandemic.

We are pleased to invite you to a high-level virtual panel that aims to create a better understanding of the roles and responsibilities of parliaments and politicians, in partnership with peacebuilders and civil society and new and old media, in addressing the root causes and the impact of online hate speech, and showcase good practices from around the world.

A collaborative effort of UNDP’s Crisis Bureau and Bureau for Policy and Programme Support, the event is part of the 2021 Stockholm Forum on Peace and Development, co-hosted by Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) and the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs, with this year’s theme being ‘Promoting Peace in the Age of Compound Risk.’

The event brings together diverse voices, with esteemed speakers from the Kyrgyz and Canadian parliaments, UNDP, civil society, media and technology sectors.

We hope this invitation will be of interest to you and your networks and encourage you to circulate it further.

If there are any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to [email protected] and [email protected]. We look forward to your participation.
