The 11th Global South-South Development Expo 2022, on the theme “Advancing SSTC for Sustainable COVID-19 Recovery: Towards a Smart and Resilient Future”, taking place between 12 and 14 September 2022. 

This 11th GSSD Expo will be in hybrid mode, held in conjunction with the 2022 UN Day for South-South Cooperation (12 September), to showcase evidence-based successful development solutions and initiatives.

The Government of Thailand, the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) and the United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation (UNOSSC) will jointly host the in-person events at the United Nations Conference Centre (UNCC) in Bangkok Thailand, from 12 to 14 September 2022.

1. GSSD Expo Opening Ceremony (Plenary)

2. Celebration Ceremony of the 2022 UN Day for South-South Cooperation & Launch of Good Practices Vol. 4

The commemoration of the 2022 UN Day for South-South Cooperation will feature the launch of the publication on “Good Practices in South-South and Triangular Cooperation for Sustainable Development – Vol. 4”, led by UNOSSC, which presents over 130 good practices from more than 50 partners. Note this publication also features 19 UNDP cases from different UNDP COs and regions. Find more information here.

3. Launch of the Report on “Accelerating COVID-19 Recovery through Ushikamano wa Pan-Africa” 

Join this side event co-organized by UNOSSC and UNDP (Africa Sustainable Finance Hub), to learn about the key findings of the report on SSTC African solutions for combating major crises, such as COVID-19, climate change and food insecurity. Find more information here.

4. Thematic Solution Forum 7: Social Protection and Health: South-South and Triangular Cooperation to Enhance Capacity to Produce and Deliver Vaccines

Join this hybrid Thematic Solution Forum co-organized by ESCAP, UNDP and WHO to discuss how to leverage the tremendous potential of South-South and Triangular Cooperation to help countries in the global south scale up responses to global health crises such as COVID-19 and develop solutions tailored to different needs and contexts.

5. CoWIN Initiative in India: A Digital Revolution Winning over COVID-19 

Join this event co-organised by Government of India & UNDP India to learn about the success of India’s digital platform CoWIN in digitizing one of the largest vaccination drive. It will also discuss the challenges, opportunities, and feasibility to adopt and adapt CoWIN in low and middle-income countries, including the important roles that key actors play in this process. 6. South-South and Triangular Cooperation for Sustainable Development and Sustaining Peace

Join this side event co-organised by DPPA and UNDP (HQ SSTC team) to learn about the cross-fertilization of experiences and ideas for the peace and development nexus in the Global South through SSTC and to explore additional measures that can be taken by all partners to galvanize strategic, coordinated and coherent policy and programmatic support. 7. Launch of South-South Ideas Papers on Digital Transformation

Co-organized by UNOSSC and UNDP, join this side event to learn about research papers developed in the framework of the South-South Global Thinkers initiative exploring policy recommendations to strengthen SSTC in addressing the digital divide, scaling-up technological transfer, and innovations, and enabling digital transformation. DAY 3: Wednesday, 14 September 2022

8. South-South Cooperation Forum of Directors-General for Sustainable Development 2022 (DG Forum 2022)

Haoliang Xu, UN Assistant Secretary-General, UNDP Assistant Administrator and Director of BPPS will speak during Session 3: "The role and efforts of the UN system in building capacities needed for SSC/TrC". The DG Forum 2022 will focus on “Strengthening South-South and triangular cooperation (SSTC) institutional capacity and ecosystem for sustainable and resilient future in the context of COVID-19 and other global crises.” Find more information here.
