First African South-South Cooperation Report

This first report marks a milestone for the work of South-South Cooperation (SSC) in Africa. It was developed by UNDP and NEPAD/AUC, with the technical support of the Islamic Development Bank and the SEGIB (Iberoamerican Secretariat).

The report received contributions from 11 African countries, including Benin, Botswana, Cote d’Ivoire, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Kenya, Lesotho, Madagascar, Rwanda, Sudan and Uganda, that have reported on their major development cooperation activities, led by developing countries and key SSC providers in the year 2017.

Beyond the data collection, the report aims to promote regional political dialogue around key policy and institutional aspects that can enable SSC in Africa and, therefore, enhance collaboration, integration and intra-African partnerships towards the 2030 and 2063 agendas. The plan for the future is to have systematic reporting led by NEPAD/AUDA with the joint technical support of the UNDP and the UNOSSC, which more African countries are expected to join over the coming years.
