Blog

In this blog, the authors Alexandra Bracken, John McArthur, and Jacob Taylor from the Center for Sustainable Development at the Brookings Institute, argue for a breakthrough from business as usual and a needed shift in mindset to tackle the economic, social, and environmental challenges embedded throughout the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The authors present the report “17 Rooms: A new approach to spurring action for the Sustainable Development Goals”, which describes an effort to innovate around the process of SDG problem-solving.

The “17 Rooms” approach brings together participants from disparate specialist communities in working groups around each of the 17 SDGs, tasked to identifying concrete actions they can take over the subsequent 12-18 months towards the SDGs. Local “17 Rooms” chapters have been set up across universities in Canada, Mexico, Spain, and the US to stimulate bottom-up awareness and cooperation across diverse constituencies.
