Dear colleagues,
As we kick off the new year and the implementation of the UNDP Strategic Plan 2022–2025, it is my pleasure to share UNDP’s HIV and Health Strategy 2022-2025: Connecting the dots - Towards a more equitable, healthier, and sustainable future. UNDP’s work in HIV and health is guided by the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and is informed by and complements the strategies and plans of key partners such as WHO, the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB, and Malaria, UNICEF, UNFPA, UN Women and UNAIDS as well as the other signatories of Global Action Plan for Healthy Lives and Well-Being.
The UNDP Strategic Plan describes how the COVID-19 pandemic is widening inequalities and commits UNDP to working with governments and partners under the leadership of WHO and UNICEF to support COVID-19 vaccine preparedness and deployment. It also notes that UNDP will scale up work with WHO, UNICEF, and other stakeholders on integrated solutions to strengthen systems for health, including to regain lost ground against HIV, TB, and malaria, and to address emerging issues such as non-communicable diseases, mental health, and pandemic preparedness.
In a world increasingly challenged by inequalities, the climate emergency and multi-dimensional risks and crises, UNDP’s work in HIV and health contributes to the organization’s strategic directions of change: leaving no one behind, building resilience, and structural transformation, as well as the Signature Solutions. Leveraging data, digital, strategic innovation sustainable financing, the HIV and Health Strategy 2022-2025 outlines UNDP support to countries in three inter-related areas: reducing inequalities, promoting effective and inclusive governance, and building resilient and sustainable systems for health. The strategy underscores the importance of partnerships, collective action, and accountability in achieving the ambition and goals of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
The strategy has benefited from the inputs of 147 country, regional and global colleagues from GPN and UNDP more broadly, sister UN entities, governments, academia, civil society, private sector, young people and other partners. Many thanks to everyone who contributed to shaping our priorities for the next four years.
Please do take a few moments to peruse the strategy and key messages. And do share the strategy with your networks and partners using the social media toolkit.
We look forward to joining forces in the implementation of this strategy.
With best wishes,
Mandeep and Ludo

Dear colleagues,
With the new UNDP Strategic Plan 2022-2025 and the Global AIDS strategy 2021-2026. End Inequalities. End AIDS adopted, UNDP's Health team is launching a consultation to update the HIV, Health and Development Strategy 2016-2021. The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria and PEPFAR are also in the process of finalising their new strategies, and the Global Action Plan for Healthy Lives and well-Being is in its third year of its implementation. This provides an opportunity to reflect on recent and future trends in health and development as well as the evolution within UNDP and among partner organizations.
As an organization focused on health as a driver, indicator and outcome of development, UNDP has an important role in supporting health outcomes by helping countries to address social, cultural, economic, legal and commercial determinants of HIV and health.
Objective
This UNDP consultation seeks your insights and perspectives to inform the development of the HIV, Health and Development Strategy (HHD) 2022-2025: Connecting the Dots. The consultation features a Discussion Room, with guiding questions centered around strategic innovation, data, digitalization, energy, financing, pandemic preparedness and the response to COVID-19, and the climate emergency. You can respond to one or more of the questions in the Discussion Room.
Target audience
The consultation is open to all UNDP staff, Technical Partners, UNAIDS Cosponsors, Policymakers and Civil Society Organizations working on HIV and health.
Impact
Inputs from this consultation will be used to shape key priorities and actions for the HHD Strategy 2022-2025: Connecting the Dots. Inputs will be consolidated into a synthesis report. The HHD Strategy 2022- 2025 will be launched in December 2021.
